Role Title: Life Coach

Program/Team: Community Programs

Location: Open Door Advocacy Associates headquarters: 20 N 29th St, Billings, MT 59101

Mission Impact: This volunteer opportunity plays a vital role in advancing our mission to walk alongside individuals and families in Billings, Montana who are overwhelmed by systems, crisis, or circumstance – providing advocacy, mentoring, and resource navigation so that no one has to navigate it alone. Whether you're a first-time volunteer or a seasoned changemaker, you are welcome here and your contribution matters.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with assigned clients.
• Meet regularly with clients and maintain consistent communication.
• Provide encouragement, accountability, and support as clients work toward their goals.
• Help clients identify strengths, overcome barriers, and take practical next steps.
• Model healthy communication, problem-solving, and personal responsibility.
• Coordinate with ODAA staff regarding client progress, concerns, and needs.
• Document client interactions and updates according to ODAA procedures.
• Connect clients with community resources when additional support is needed.
• Report safety concerns, mental health crises, abuse, neglect, or other significant issues immediately.
• Participate in required training, supervision, and volunteer development activities.

• Strong listening and interpersonal communication skills.
• Emotional maturity, patience, and empathy.
• Ability to maintain healthy boundaries and confidentiality.
• Reliability and consistency in keeping commitments.
• Good judgment and the ability to recognize when professional referrals are needed.
• Basic computer and communication skills.
• Previous mentoring, coaching, leadership, ministry, volunteer, or helping-profession experience is beneficial but not required.
